Melanie Klein and her contribution to the Psychoanalysis

Hi folks! Well, I’d like to talk about a person, who contributed to improvement on the Psychoanalysis. This person is Melanie Klein. Melanie Reizes (her single name) was born on Vienna on March 30th 1882. She’s got married in 1882 with Arthur Klein, at age of twenty-one. That year, she and her husband lived in Rosenberg, Hungary. The couple had three children, Melitta, Hans and Erich.
She studied History and arts on Vienna University.
Melanie Klein had her first approach on Psychoanalysis in 1913 with Sándor Ferenczi, when she was living in Budapest.
Melanie made great contributions to the theory, especially on the work with children. She was one of the co-founders of object relations theory. Also she thought in a phase before the Oedipus Complex, when the child still has breast-fed for his/her mother. Klein proposed two different states of the psyche, the depressive position and the paranoid-schizoid position. This theory explain the human development.
Melanie Klein’s work was collected in four volumes, "Love, Guilt and Reparation: And Other Works 1921-1945"; "The Psychoanalysis of Children"; "Envy and Gratitude" and "Narrative of a Child Analysis".
Melanie died at age of seventy-eight years in September 22th 1960.

  1. Very good, Javier. I didn´t know about Melanie.

Do you mean, "When the child is still being breast fed?"
